The Community Living Skills Program has been operating in Kirkland Lake since 1979 as an outreach program, through which skills are taught to people in their home and community environment. The Day Program component started in 1986 and has recently located to the present building at 4 Tweedsmuir Road in Kirkland Lake.
Some outreach services provided include: Laundry, housekeeping, cooking skill development, decision making, pedestrian safety, community integration skills, socialization skills, fine and gross motor skills, personal hygiene to name a few.
The Day program Services are based on the individually expressed goal of the participant, some of the Day Program activities include (however not limited to ) the following: Social skills, craft activities and projects, exercise and range of motion, computer time, bingos, music therapy, board games, hygiene, grooming skills, baking and cooking classes.
The Day program works within a semi-structured setting: allowing participants to maintain their independence and make choices within a schedule.
Venture Night is another activity clients greatly enjoy. Venture Night is an evening of socializing and planned activities, whereby clients have the opportunity to enjoy music nights, crafts, scrap booking and games. At the end of the evening, snacks and refreshments are provided to all those participating.
The Community Living Skills Program program aims to provide clients with fun activities while engaging with the community. These activities include billiards night, Venture Night and other local community events.
